Five.

Breck

Climbing from the ring and leaving my comatose opponent behind, I make my way through the screaming crowd as they cheer me on. I should have been at home with Lilly. She’s been ill, but Uncle Lyle couldn’t postpone the fight.

“Yo, Breck!” I hear shouted as I make my way into the back.

Turning, I find Jimmy behind me.

“What?” I ask as he makes his way through the crowd.

“It’s Lilly, she…!” Is as far as I let him get before I’m running.

Once outside I curse, I’ve left my stuff inside, knowing I’ll be pulled over before getting to Lilly I change course. Leaving my bike behind, I run to Jimmy’s truck as he climbs into the driver’s seat.

“Gimme your phone!” I shout, shutting my door as he starts the engine.

“Here.” He says, pulling it from his pocket and handing it over.

Dialing Lilly’s number, I wait, and wait.

“Shit!” Hanging up, I try again.

“Come on Baby. Answer the phone!” I plea as it kicks into voicemail again.

I drop the phone to the dash and run my hands through my hair, pulling it as I let the stress of not hearing from Lilly settle in.

“What happened?” I ask Jimmy. Surely he knows, at least?

“She was talking to Lyle, then said she wasn’t feeling too good. She got up and keeled over.” He tells me.

Jimmy looks a little green.

“Tell me.”

“She’s been taken to the hospital. She was bleeding.” He says.

“Bleeding? Did she hit her head?” I ask.

“Not from the head.” He tells me.

“Stop beating around the bush and spit it out!” I growl, getting more pissed off by the second.

“Down there, between her legs. So much blood.” He shudders.

“She’s not due her period for ano…” I stop talking. I can’t remember when she had her last period.

“She’s pregnant!”
